The Gameboy Micro!
In 2005, Nintendo released their very last handheld in the Game Boy family, the Game Boy Micro! Launched a year after the Nintendo DS, the Micro was unfortunately ignored by most, making the prices skyrocket today. It features a backlit 2 inch wide screen which sadly puts the Pocket to shame (still love it just as much though!) When it first came out, one of these bad boys would set you back $99.99. Today, as of 2024, the Micro is usually sold for $199.99 give or take a few bucks depending on the model. I really hope to be playing my Advance cartridges on this super cute Game Boy someday soon!
Nights Into Dreams for the Sega Saturn!
When I was very young, my parents owned a Sega Saturn. We didn't own more than 5 games or so maximum for it, so I don't remember much about the system. My memories of the console and games felt more dreamlike than real. Ironically this game is the biggest example of a dreamlike memory for me. The only remnant (FNAF REFERENCE?!) of the game in my mind were some occasional flashes of it that looked like something out of a crazy trip. After years of wondering about the "purple girl dream game" and whether or not it was real, I put those same words into Google, and immediately found what I was looking for. Nights Into Dreams was developed by the Sonic team after the 1994 Genesis game, Sonic and Knuckles. I always thought of Nights as "the purple dream girl," but the head of the Sonic Team, Takashi Iizuka, said in a 2007 Nintendo Life Interview "Nights is neutral, and therefore has no gender. The impressions of the character with regards to gender are totally up to the player." I would absolutely love to tell you what the game is about, but besides flying and collecting coins, I genuinely have no fucking clue what's happening.
